I personally don’t know if Mr. Slater’s mother was key in his early (and some later) roles, but the internet has an opinion, and I submit some snippets of sites for your review, even if the evidence is circumstantial. I would be naive to believe that having your mother as a casting agent would not be influential in getting an acting gig.

After having recently revisited Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Christian Slater appears on screen as a Communications Officer on the USS Excelsior.
It’s been well documented that Slater is a tremendous Star Trek fan and got the role on the film because his mother was the casting director.

has done some good acting work, and I am confident he will be a credit to the acting community, regardless of how he entered the business. We can only hope that our friends and connections would favor us in our own foray into the film industry.
